Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI)

RTI is a photographic technique which captures a set of reflectance images of an object, with each image lit from a different angle. This highlights surface relief and texture, allowing the viewer to examine surface details of the object in greater detail than would normally be the case.

The RTI rig used by the ISAAC mobile lab will create a set of images of an object which can be processed to produce an image file which can be viewed under different virtual lighting conditions. As currently set up, it can capture images of objects which are up to the size of an A4 sheet of paper.
